In the framework of the enviroGRIDS projects, training workshop is being organized in Tbilisi (Georgia) in November 29, 2010.

BRINGING GEOSS SERVICES INTO PRACTICE

Content: This workshop from the Black Sea regional training workshop series, sponsored by the European Commission’s 7th Framework Programme (FP7) enviroGRIDS project (coordinated by University of Geneva, see www.envirogrids.net) aims at teaching participants how to install, configure and deploy a set of open source software that allows them to publish and share their data and metadata through the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) using Open GIS Consortium (OGC) web services & ISO standards. The workshop will cover interoperability, hands-on experience with web portals, information access, open source software and data sharing through web services and GEOSS registries.

Registration and participants: Deadline for registration is November 10th 2010. Every participant must register submitting the registration form via e-mail envirogrids@geographic.ge. Registration is free of charge and open to enviroGRIDS partners, technical experts & institutions from Georgia, the countries of the Black Sea region and Caucasus, that could benefit from an implementation of GEOSS.

The workshop will be held in English.

Certificates of the enviroGRIDS project would be provided to participants successfully completing the training.

Facilities and requirements: Wireless internet access with will be provided to workshop participants. All participants will receive a CD with all necessary open source software and data, user guides and relevant documentation on SDIs.

Participants are required to bring their own laptops (with at least Windows XP installed).

Participants are encouraged to provide organizers with their sample spatial data for testing the web deployment as part of the training exercise. Sample spatial received at least one week in advance of the training would be considered for the test deployment session.

Participants are asked to select and book their stay directly through the hotel web site / e-mail. In case local assistance is required please do not hesitate to contact organizers in Georgia via e-mail envirogrids@geographic.ge. Please cc your messages sent to the hotels, so that organizers can keep track of the booking situation and assist whenever requested.

Visa: For vast majority of countries visa is not required while entering Georgia. Please consult with the webpage of the Ministry of Foregin Affairs of Georgia to identify visa status for your country. If you require invitation letter or visa assistance, please contact organizers in Georgia via e-mail envirogrids@geographic.ge.
